Barcelona worried about Fabregas joining Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas has been a very public affair. Completely unlike our normally covert transfer dealings, both bids have been confirmed by David Moyes to the press and both have been rejected by Barcelona.

The 26-year-old midfielder has not shown any desire to leave and Barcelona have stated that he is not for sale at any price but according to Spain’s Marca, United are lining up a third bid for Fabregas as Moyes continues his pursuit of him.

What is interesting about Marca’s report is that they raise the issue of Fabregas’ silence. If he really had no intention of leaving the club, why has his representation not flatly denied any rumours linking him with a move away? They have remained silent which has fuelled speculation.

And they also suggest that Barcelona are worried about United’s insistent pursuit because they expected Moyes to back down by now. Given Barcelona’s very public stance on Fabregas, they are worried that United may have sources close to the player telling them that a move may materialise.

On paper, Fabregas’ move to United didn’t look like it would have any legs but the longer this transfer situation continues, the bigger the hope grows that we may have gauged it wrong in the first place.
