Nani has hinted that he wants to stay with Manchester United and that he is ready for the new challenge under David Moyes.
The 26-year-old is at the centre of fierce speculation linking him with a move to big spending Monaco after an indifferent season at Old Trafford.
But Nani insists that despite the different feel of United without Sir Alex, the winning mentality of the side won’t change and he hopes to prove himself David Moyes.
“Of course it’s a bit different when Sir Alex leaves the club, so you can feel the change because you know how important he was for this club,” he said.
“The team is the same and we hope the manager comes with ideas to help us to win again.
“Of course, everyone has to prove himself because it is a different manager with different ideas.
“But he knows the players because he has played against them, he has seen the TV and has seen them all these years in the Premier League.
“I think, after a couple of weeks, a couple of months, with the players, he will understand every personality.”
Last night, Nani returned to action for the first time since his nose surgery that ruled him out of United’s pre-season tour and scored a brace against Crewe Alexandra, including a well taken free-kick.
Despite the lesser opposition, Nani looked fit and sharp. The fact he didn’t participate in the tour wouldn’t have helped his match fitness but with a friendly, testimonial and Community Shield to play before the season begins, he still has time to work on his fitness.
And it sounds like Nani is ready to try and prove his worth to Moyes which could be half the battle won. When Nani has a real hunger to succeed, he tends to play better and if he can find world class performances on a more consistent basis, he could be one of the league’s most prolific wingers.
