Wilfried Zaha has admitted that life so far at Manchester United has been great and that he is ecstatic to win his first piece of silverware at the club.
The 20-year-old played for an hour in United’s 2-0 victory over Wigan at Wembley with David Moyes choosing to give him a start in his first game as manager in a sign of how well Zaha has performed so far at United.
And speaking to the FA after the match, Zaha was clear in his ambition to win as many trophies as possible under Moyes at United.
“He’s done well in the pre-season games and he’s going to develop. There will be times when he is up and down but it was a great opportunity for him to get on the pitch and be a part of Manchester United.” David Moyes
“It’s a great feeling, just being back here [Wembley],” he said.
“The last time I was here was with Crystal Palace and obviously we won that game too.
“It’s fantastic to win a trophy. That’s why I signed for Manchester United, because that’s what they do. They are literally winners, that’s all they know how to do. I’m glad I joined Manchester United; all I want to do is win medals and this is the place.
“It was very hot out there today and it’s a big pitch, but that something I’m going to have to get used to, working on my energy and endurance during the game.“We played well and I think we definitely deserved the win, and it’s good to get a medal so quickly.”
Out on the pre-season tour of Asia, Zaha was one of United’s best performers in every game. He was consistently one of the brightest players on the pitch and despite how little time he has spent with his team-mates so far, he already looks settled.
It has been a huge step up for the young winger but he has so far taken everything in his stride extremely well.
“Manchester United are a such a huge club, they have so much support everywhere,” he continued.
“It was just so crazy, so many fans everywhere we went.
“I always knew they were a huge club, but until you see it with your own eyes you have no idea.
“It was just so different for me, normally our tours at Crystal Palace were one week but this one was three, but it was a great experience for me and now I just can’t wait to get into the season.”
Players like Zaha are what makes football exciting. He is a wizard with the ball at his feet and is a defender’s worst nightmare. United have needed a player like Zaha ever since the departure of Ronaldo and while comparisons are futile at this early stage, the signs so far indicate that Zaha has the talent to have a big impact at Old Trafford.
