Manchester United have suffered a double injury blow after Rafael Da Silva and Ashley Young both picked up injuries.
Rafael went off with a hamstring injury against Wigan Athletic while Young has pulled out of the England squad to face Scotland this week in what seems like a recurrence of his ankle issues from last season.
It is a big blow for Rafael who is expected to be sidelined for four to five weeks meaning that he is likely to miss games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
Speaking to MUTV, David Moyes confirmed that Rafael had ‘felt his hamstring’ but doesn’t believe that the injury will have an effect on the team due to his suspension for the first game of the season.
“He is suspended for the first game of the season anyway, so in a way, I wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter but it won’t have an effect on what we do next weekend.”
Rafael is likely to be replaced in the side by either his brother Fabio or Moyes’ first signing for the club Guillermo Varela with Jones, Smalling and Valencia also potential replacements for the Brazilian.
Young’s withdrawal from the England squad is likely a precaution from the club to not aggravate any existing niggles that he has ahead of the new season.
