Vidic: There’s no point Rooney going anywhere else

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has questioned why Wayne Rooney would want to leave Manchester United.

The 27-year-old hasn’t played a minute of football under David Moyes thanks to persistent injuries and his future has been the centre of attention at Old Trafford this summer.

Chelsea have already had two bids rejected for Rooney but are expected to come back with an improved third offer to try and lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Vidic himself has been linked with a move away from the club several times in his stay at Manchester so far but has remained loyal to the club that he very much calls home, something he thinks Rooney should do.

“I believe Man United is the biggest club in the world and I think there’s no point to go anywhere (else),” Vidic said after United’s Community Shield victory.

“There’s so much speculation, so much talk about whether he’ll leave or stay.

“He’s at the best club in the world. I have to say the last four years I was in that position as well. People were talking about me leaving the club. I’m still here and I’m enjoying playing for this club. Nothing has changed.”

With no official statement coming from Rooney so far apart from what his agent Paul Stretford has leaked to the press, it has been Moyes who has treaded carefully with his words and remains adamant towards keeping Rooney at the club for the coming season.

Being third favourites for the defence of their title by several bookies this summer, keeping someone of Rooney’s quality is paramount but if he simply doesn’t want to be at United, then there may be nothing that Moyes can do to convince him to stay.
