Sam Johnstone has joined League One side Yeovil Town on an initial three month loan deal from Manchester United.
It is a just reward for the 20-year-old goalkeeper who had a fantastic year of progression in 2012/13. After a stellar campaign with United’s U21s, Johnstone was the first choice shot-stopper for England at the U20 World Cup and he was named on the bench by Roy Hodgson for England’s U21s this week.
Johnstone has had previous loan spells at Scunthorpe, Oldham and Walsall so this move to Yeovil will hopefully help him to continue on his upward curve.
Unfortunately for Johnstone, 22-year-old David de Gea looks like he will be United’s first choice goalkeeper for a long time but if he can keep progressing, he can at least challenge the Spaniard for that first team spot.
