Javier Hernandez is more motivated than ever to succeed at Manchester United this season despite competitions for places his agent has confirmed.
Valencia approached United about a potential move and while the interest was genuine, Hernandez reiterated to his agent Eduardo Hernandez that he had no desire to leave Old Trafford.
Speaking to El Universal, Hernandez said: “Valencia had a real interest. I had the opportunity to talk to the sporting director but Javier wants to consolidate at Manchester United and that is the challenge.
“It’s not about money, we can’t even touch on that. There is only one issue with Javier – he wants to play and be a starter with United.
“He knows he is in a very competitive team and that, each day, he has to fight to play, from the dressing room to the training pitch, but he’s not scared. He says he’s more motivated than ever.”
Hernandez has been sidelined with a tendinitis problem in his knee that has kept him out of action but his agent confirmed that he has trained well in the past week and is ready for first team action.
United fans had worried that because of a lack of game time, Chicharito could potentially look elsewhere to get more guaranteed game time so it is great to hear that he is still happy to fight for his spot in the team.
That sort of mentality is exactly the type of player that United needs. Hernandez is a prolific goalscorer and deserves to be starting every game but it is a testament to his love for United that he is happy to continue fighting for his spot in the side.
And David Moyes will be no doubt be hopeful that Hernandez will be fit in time for Chelsea’s visit to Old Trafford next Monday given his prolific goalscoring record against the Rentboys.
