Manchester United duo nominated for Player of the Year awards

Michael Carrick has been nominated on a five-man short list for the 2013 Northwest Football Awards’ Player of the Year and youngster Ben Pearson has been nominated for the Rising Star award given to the promising youngster of the year.

Leighton Baines, Jamie Carragher (really?), Pablo Zabaleta and Shaun Maloney have all been shortlisted for the award too. Last year, Antonio Valencia missed out on the award to Martin Skrtel.

It caps what was a fantastic year for Carrick after he was nominated for PFA Player of the Year, named in the PFA Team of the Year and named Players’ Player of the Year by his United team-mates.

United’s Ben Pearson, who was named Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in 2012, has been nominated for the Rising Star award that was won by Nick Powell last year after a brilliant season with the U18s.

The 18-year-old is expected to feature heavily for Warren Joyce’s U21s this year as he continues his progression towards the United first-team.

Make sure you vote for both Carrick and Pearson here.
