Lewandowski admits he snubbed Manchester United move

Robert Lewandowski has revealed that he turned down a move to Manchester United in the past year as he wasn’t ready to leave Borussia Dortmund.

Sir Alex Ferguson tried to personally lure the Polish striker away from Germany but couldn’t succeed in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Last year, Lewandowski endured a tough season with Dortmund and lost out on both the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League trophies to Bayern Munich, the club he will join next season.

“One year earlier I also spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson and that was definitely a great feeling,” Lewandowski told Sky Sports.

“The retirement of Sir Alex didn’t affect my decision not to come to England. He spoke to me one year ago. It was not at a good time.

“I knew I still had something big to achieve in Dortmund before I joined a bigger club.”

Lewandowski also turned down moves to Chelsea and Real Madrid in order to stay in Dortmund.

While it would have been fantastic to have Lewandowski in the squad given how prolific he is in front of goal, we signed Robin van Persie last year and his goals spearheaded us to the Premier League title and had Lewandowski joined, that move may never have materialised.
