Everton reject Manchester United’s £36m bid with ludicrous £50m fee touted

Manchester United have had a £36 million bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines turned down by Everton according to widespread reports including The Independent and The Guardian.

An original bid of £28 million for the pair was labelled as ‘derisory’ by Everton’s board and that has been followed up with a rejection of Moyes’ second bid that was once again waved away by the Merseyside club.

Moyes’ improved offer indicates that he is very keen on bringing his old players to Old Trafford but Everton are standing firm that they are not for sale at that price. The Mirror claims that Everton want £25 million each for Fellaini and Baines, a ludicrous figure that United would never pay.

It is quickly escalating to the stage where Fellaini could be made to force his way out of Everton should he want to make the move to United and his presence in the midfield would certainly strengthen the side.

Fellaini had a release clause of £23.5 million that expired a few weeks ago, a release clause Moyes would have known about, yet Moyes chose not to use it which indicates that Moyes might think he can get Fellaini for cheaper.

As for 28-year-old Baines, I am not convinced he is worth anywhere near that money to United because he would be directly competing with Patrice Evra for the left back slot and we already have Fabio ready as cover.

But it seems like Moyes has got his heart set on bringing the duo to Old Trafford, so expect this transfer saga to go on late into Monday evening when the transfer deadline window shuts.
