Robin van Persie has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for August after picking up where he left off last season.
The Dutchman earned 57% of the votes ahead of Nemanja Vidic (26%) and Danny Welbeck (17%) and earned his first trophy of the year.
Grabbing four goals in three games, the 29-year-old reached 50 appearances for the club in the league opener against Swansea City.
A solid brace against Wigan, leading United to lift their first silverware available for the club, was followed by a brace at the Liberty Stadium that showed everyone Van Persie is ready to beat his 30 goal haul from last season.
As always, Van Persie remained modest in his acceptance of the award and dedicated it to the fans who had placed their votes.
“It’s always nice to win awards, especially those voted for by the fans,” he said.
Van Persie may have been unusually quiet in a stalemate affair against Chelsea on Monday but he will be fired up for an away trip to Anfield where he scored the winner last season from the spot.
