Manchester United have been given a big boost from Rafael with the Brazilian set to return to training next week.
The 23-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League this season after he limped out of United’s victory against Wigan in the Community Shield.
In Rafael’s absence, Phil Jones stepped into the right-back slot but he twisted his ankle against Liverpool on Sunday and is a doubt for the first game back against Crystal Palace on 14 September, so Rafael’s return is very timely.
He uploaded a photo to his official Instagram account this week with the caption: “Training next week nearly ready to play again so happy. #manchesterunited #happy #training”.
Last year, Rafael was one of United’s most improved and consistent performers. It was the first season since Gary Neville‘s departure in 2011 that the Brazilian really made the right-back role his own.
Jones has played well in his absence but United have missed the attacking impetus that Rafael brings to the position so it will be great to have him match fit again.
