Manchester United’s latest signing Saidy Janko scored a goal and bagged an assist in two friendlies against Romania for Switzerland’s U19s on international duty this week.
The 17-year-old was brought into the club for an undisclosed fee from FC Zurich as a full-back but showed his versatility with Switzerland as he played both games from a right midfield position.
Versatility is a trait that will always get you opportunities as a youngster at United. When it comes to signing new talent, we rarely fill an agenda with a signing. It is more about securing individuals for the academy who have potential. They are too young to have a fully fledged position anyway.
United have very little natural wide players in the academy so Janko will add a new dynamic to Paul McGuinness’ side and the fact that he has done well in this international break bodes well for the start of his career at United.
If you want to see Janko in action, you can watch his performance in the Blue Stars Tournament final from earlier this year. He wears #14 at right midfield and plays from the 44th minute in the video onwards.
