David Moyes is confident that Adnan Januzaj will sign a new contract soon with his current deal set to expire in 2015.
The 18-year-old Belgian has been thrust into the limelight after a brilliant cameo performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday and negotiations have been ongoing since the end of last season with Januzaj’s representation.
It is fantastic news to hear that United are close to agreeing a new long term deal with Januzaj. After the loss of talented youngsters such as Paul Pogba and Mats Daehli after a lack of opportunities, the thought of Januzaj potentially leaving was a bad one for fans.
Moyes also explained that Januzaj’s absence from the senior UEFA Champions League squad was because he could not be added onto the list until October.
The Scot gave an update on Shinji Kagawa’s fitness and said that he is feeling a bit better after recovering from flu at the weekend. He said: “He has a bit of flu. He did some work yesterday and a little bit today.”
With Welbeck sidelined with injury and no update on Nani, Kagawa is surely in line for a start against Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow if he is fit. He played against them plenty of times in the Bundesliga so he knows how they play as well.
