Paul Scholes was on the bench today as Manchester United’s U19s began their Champions League tournament against Bayer Leverkusen.
The 38-year-old turned down the offer from David Moyes to coach in a full time capacity but he will now help Nicky Butt on a game-by-game basis.
He would have been pleased with the start that the U19s made seeing as they were 2-0 up against a strong Leverkusen side within the first ten minutes.
It is fantastic to see Scholes back so soon. Given that he turned down the full time role in order to spend more time with his family, many didn’t expect to see him back working with the club for this season at the very least.
There would be no better player to coach our youngsters than arguably our greatest ever player. Welcome back, Scholes.
