Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United, 9 December 2012
When Robin van Persie chose to snub a move to Manchester City in order to come to Old Trafford, he already endeared himself to the United faithful but in his first derby debut, he gave the United fans something to really sing about – a last minute winner at the Etihad.
When Pablo Zabaleta had equalised late on, City looked the most likely team to go and score the winner but van Persie had other ideas.
He curled his effort round the wall and, thanks in no small part to a deflection from Samir Nasri, it nestled in the side netting. The travelling United fans went wild and so did the players.
Van Persie’s goal put United six points clear at the top of the table and it was seen as the turning point in the title winning season. From that point onwards, United never looked back.
