Jesse Lingard had an emphatic debut for Birmingham City today by scoring four goals, including a first half hat-trick, against Sheffield Wednesday.
The 20-year-old only secured a one month loan deal a few days ago but he has obviously settled into the Championship straight away.
The loan deal is initially only one month but if Lingard impresses, and it looks like he will from his first performance, Birmingham will be keen to extend it to the end of the season.
Last year, Lingard had an unproductive spell at Leicester City and some fans labelled him as not good enough for that level but he has quashed any belief that he can’t make a name for himself in the Championship this year.
Lingard deserved regular game time after finishing United’s preseason tour as top scorer with four goals and there are high hopes for his future at Old Trafford.
The last United English youngster to score a hat-trick on his debut was none other than Wayne Rooney which is a fantastic comparison for Lingard to have and if he can take this loan spell by the horns, there is every chance he can challenge for a spot in David Moyes’ side next season.
