Manchester United excited about ‘massive potential’ of new signing

Saidy Janko joined Manchester United for an undisclosed fee from FC Zurich on transfer deadline day and signing him was a ‘no brainer’ according to Nicky Butt.

The 17-year-old is yet to feature for United due to international clearance but he has already showcased his talent for Switzerland.

During the international break, Janko impressed with a goal and an assist in two performances for Switzerland’s U19s.

He played at right midfield despite being touted as a right back which indicates that versatility is one of his strengths and Butt can’t wait to get him in action for United.

“He’s not available at the minute because we’re waiting for international clearance,” Butt told ManUtd.com.

“It could take time – weeks or months – we’re not sure yet.

“The important thing with Saidy was getting him signed up and having him training to get his fitness up and his potential out there because he has got massive potential.”

Versatility is a trait that always helps any youngster get game time at Carrington so Janko has already put himself in a good position without playing yet.

The 17-year-old was spotted by Butt and Warren Joyce out in the Blue Stars tournament in Zurich last year, a competition where Adnan Januzaj won the Golden Boot, after Janko won the tournament without conceding a goal.

“He played against us in the Blue Stars tournament and stood out straight away,” admitted Butt.

“Warren and I watched him a couple of times over there and, when you see a player like him with his physical ability at a young age and ability with a football, it was a no-brainer really.

“We were just lucky with the timing as we were there and he was playing against us and was available to get. Although it was a bit of hard work to do it, we’ve got him and it’s just a no-brainer because he has fantastic potential.”

United have had a lot of success with European imports in recent years with the likes of Vermijl, Januzaj and Pogba all having come good in their time at Carrington, and Butt will be hoping that Janko can become the next success story.
