David Moyes has confirmed that Robin van Persie is not fit enough to face Liverpool tomorrow but that he has an ‘outside chance’ of returning for West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
The Dutchman picked up a groin strain during training last week and missed the Manchester derby at the weekend. It was hoped that he would have been fit to play against Liverpool but that is not the case.
United certainly missed his presence at the Etihad on Sunday. It is a blow that he won’t be fit in time for the Capital One Cup clash tomorrow but he may not have started anyway given United’s tradition of blooding youngsters in the competition.

In his absence there are a host of players who are ready and willing to step in. Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez are two players that are likely to feature in some capacity tomorrow while Wayne Rooney may also start because he missed the league tie against Liverpool earlier this season.
