Moyes confirms Van Persie is fit and gives update on Januzaj and Cleverley

David Moyes has revealed that Robin van Persie has returned to fitness and is available for selection against West Brom on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Dutchman missed games against Manchester City and Liverpool after suffering a groin strain in training last week but he will feature against West Brom in some capacity.

“Robin will be back, involved somewhere,” Moyes told reporters at the pre-match press conference this afternoon.

“He trained today and is fit. But we’ll have to see exactly where he is.”

It’s fantastic news to hear that van Persie has returned to fitness because there was a worry that small injuries like this could snowball given his injury history but even though he has returned to fitness, he shouldn’t be risked against West Brom and should only be brought on if United need a goal.

“The players showed they were hurt [with Liverpool performance]. We’ll try to give the fans something to shout about again tomorrow.” David Moyes

Moyes also gave an update on Tom Cleverley who missed the Liverpool game after suffering an injury to his knee during the week in training.

He said: “Tom has done a bit of training today. He rocked his knee in training and hopefully he won’t be too far away.”

Cleverley had a fantastic cameo against City so it was a shame he couldn’t play against Liverpool but it is good news to hear that his injury was only minor.

Regarding the contract situation with Adnan Januzaj, Moyes remained coy on specific details but reiterated the things were still moving along.

“As far as I know, things are moving along,” he added.

“As soon as we get the news, we will give it to you.”

Januzaj could feature against West Brom on Saturday in some capacity having featured against Liverpool during the week and United fans are eager to see the 18-year-old sign a long term contract sooner rather than later.
