Moyes admits Januzaj influences could complicate contract talks like Pogba

David Moyes has admitted that ‘influences’ surrounding Adnan Januzaj could complicate Manchester United’s ongoing negotiations to get the 18-year-old to sign a new long term contract at Old Trafford.

United started negotiations towards the end of last season and despite his progress into first team football, he is yet to agree a new deal.

There are worries that the Januzaj situation could mirror Paul Pogba‘s exit from Old Trafford given how he was influenced by outside forces in his departure.

“Adnan is keen to stay, but he has some influences round him,” Moyes told The Telegraph.

“We really think an awful lot of him, he is a Manchester United player and I am sure he will [continue to] be.

“We think this is the best place for producing and giving young players an opportunity. We think we do it better than anybody.

“I do it, maybe not as well as my predecessor, but at Everton we always put young players in the team when we thought the time was right. It is what we want.

“It is part of my remit to promote young players and Adnan has been promoted already. The next part is to become a regular first-team player.”

Januzaj has excelled in his first team endeavours so far this season and fans are nervous that he could be the latest in a string of youngsters to leave Old Trafford.

Outside forces, typically agents, are influencing youngsters more and more in modern football but United must make sure that Januzaj knows how highly regarded he is at Old Trafford to ensure that another talent doesn’t leave in search of first team football.
