Bebe shows there is hope for him with brilliant performance in Portugal

by Sam Peoples

Bebe opened his goalscoring record on loan at Pacos de Fereira in their thrilling 4-3 victory over Maritimo in Portugal this weekend.

The 23-year-old scored a great left footed strike from the edge of the box with a drilled effort and was involved in Pacos’ late winner after the defender turned a square ball aimed for Bebe into his own net.

Last year, Bebe had a very productive loan spell with Rio de Ave and the early signs are that he may use this period out with Pacos de Fereira in the same fashion.

Bebe has done little to show that he is worthy of the £7 million Sir Alex Ferguson forked out on him but his form out in Portugal, where he is clearly more comfortable with the playing level, has shown that he at least has some sort of ability but even with Warren Joyce’s reserves, Bebe struggled with the English style of football.

Will Bebe become a star in the future? He has given United fans plenty of reasons to doubt that will ever happen but at least he is showing some promise out in Portugal, so we are all holding onto the hope that it could still happen.
