Wilfried Zaha made his first Manchester United appearance since the Community Shield last night in the Reserves 4-0 victory over Bolton in the Manchester Senior Cup.
The 20-year-old had a fantastic individual game that included a stunning 40 yard dribble and shot which struck the crossbar, and a smart finish to score United’s third goal of the night.
From an Adnan Januzaj corner, Zaha moved the ball onto his right foot and calmly slotted through a sea of players with a very composed finish. Giving how poor his finishing was on tour, it was a markedly improved effort from Zaha.
Zaha started off the game slowly as you would imagine after so long without a competitive match but got better as the match went on. He was substituted ten minutes from time when the game was all but sealed.
It is fantastic to see Zaha back in action. He is still far from polished with plenty of work needing to be done on his finishing and left foot ability but it is just good to see him playing after so long away from the limelight.
United will announce their travelling squad tomorrow for the UEFA Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, but Zaha probably won’t travel given the importance of the game.
Despite that, performances like tonight will make sure that David Moyes is keeping a close eye on the progress of Zaha this season.
