Wayne Rooney is expected to be fit to play against Sunderland this weekend after being ruled out of tonight’s fixture with a swollen shin.
He picked up the injury in a clash with Danny Welbeck in training and there were concerns that he might have been ruled out of United’s Premier League clash on Saturday.
But asked after the match tonight if Rooney would be fit for Sunderland, David Moyes confirmed Rooney is in line to return.
“I think so,” he said.
“It’s not that serious, he just took it in a clash with Danny Welbeck [in training] and it’s swollen up.”
Rooney has always been a player whose form has depended on a consistent of games. His form is very susceptible to hot and cold patches if he is sidelined by an injury so it is good news that he will be fit in time for the weekend given the rich vein of form he is currently in.
Sunderland is the last game before an international break and United need to make sure that they go into the break on a positive note after all the doom and gloom of the past couple of weeks.
