Adnan Januzaj‘s ongoing negotiations with Manchester United have been slow. Sir Alex Ferguson‘s departure caused a delay in talks but they have since been renewed and the 18-year-old is looking close to signing a deal.
David Moyes has done everything right so far to show Januzaj that his future lies at Old Trafford. He took him on the pre-season tour of Asia and Januzaj was one of our brightest players on a physically demanding tour due to the conditions.
Back in England, he brought him on in the Community Shield against Wigan where he once again impressed and Moyes continued to give Januzaj first team opportunities in the Premier League against Crystal Palace and West Brom.
As well as all of that, Moyes introduced Januzaj to the hostile atmosphere of the derby against Liverpool and, once again, Januzaj didn’t falter.
But there are two more steps that Moyes has to do to complete the package for Januzaj that should show him he can become an integral part to United’s side sooner rather than later.
First, the 18-year-old needs to be handed his first Premier League start. A must win away game to Sunderland before a two week international break is likely not the right time for that to happen but with games against Southampton, Stoke and Cardiff all before the end of November, Januzaj should be given a first start that would have such a positive psychological effect on him.
Secondly, Januzaj needs to be introduced to the Champions League and handed his debut. So far, he is yet to feature because of his age but he will eligible for the match day squad against Real Sociedad.
In Europe, United have performed very well and if we can continue that vein of form against Sociedad at home, Moyes might be able to give Januzaj his first taste of the Champions League with a late cameo.
Januzaj clearly loves playing football and his prerogative is simply to do that, something Moyes has so far given him. If Januzaj can now be given his first start and his Champions League debut, Moyes would have done everything in his power to show Januzaj why Old Trafford should remain his home.
Do you think Adnan Januzaj will sign a long term contract with Manchester United?
