Manchester United are ‘very keen’ on signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender according to sources in Germany.
In the summer, Arsenal had an £18.5 million bid for Bender rejected by Leverkusen but a release clause of €15 million is believed to be activated after this season.
The 24-year-old is a highly rated central midfielder who has become an established member of Leverkusen and has broken through into the German national team, with whom he has scored three goals in four appearances in 2013.
Arrived in Leverkusen and a good source tell me that Man UTD are very keen to sign Lars Bender. Note: BuyOutClause: Under € 15 mill #MUFC

Bender had a cameo appearance against United at Old Trafford a few weeks ago and looked impressive in his short spell on the pitch.
Strong in the tackle and a powerful presence, Bender is a player who combines an intelligent passing game with a real physicality that is so typical of German midfielders.
Like Owen Hargreaves before his injury woes, Bender isn’t afraid to get involved anywhere on the pitch and is very much a box-to-box style of midfielder.
If he does have a release clause of €15 million that activates at the end of this season, he would be an absolute bargain.
Moyes indicated that he is still keen on bringing new faces into Old Trafford so long as the right ones are available and Bender would add a lot to United’s midfield. The question would be whether his style of play would be too similar to that of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini.
Do you think Lars Bender would be a good signing for Manchester United?
