PSV’s Zakaria Bakkali has confirmed that he rejected the opportunity to join Manchester United this summer as it was too soon for him to move.

The 17-year-old burst onto the scene this year after he scored on his debut for PSV when he played in the Champions League and became the youngest player ever in the Eredivisie to score a hat-trick in what was only his second appearance in the league.

Speaking to SportskeBakkali confirmed that United came in with the offer but that he needs to develop more with PSV before considering a move.

“I am satisfied in the Netherlands, getting a space to play and develop,” he said.

“At this moment, that is the most important thing.

“Yes, it is [true about offers]. Many were interested and two clubs sent an official offer. One of them was Manchester United.”

It’s fantastic to hear that United were in for such a highly coveted youngster. The core of the club is built on burgeoning young talents and Bakkali certainly looks like one of the hottest in Europe.

Bakkali is extremely similar to Adnan Januzaj in that he only pledged his future to Belgium this week as he had dual nationality with Morocco, a decision that Januzaj is yet to make.

Gazet van Antwerpen labelled his choice as a logical decision and Belgium certainly boast one of the finest crop of talented youngsters that there is in football right now.

The 17-year-old’s decision to stay in order to game time is understandable and commendable. Given that United have already shown their interest, there is no reason why David Moyes would not go back in again in the future.

Here is a video of his brilliant hat-trick against NEC Nijmegen – his third goal was the pick of the bunch.
