Manchester United take highly rated American winger on trial

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have taken on American schoolboy Nick Taitague this week on a ten day trial according to SoccerWire.

The 14-year-old attacker was spotted by United’s scouts at the recent Copa Mexico de Naciones tournament where he helped USA to a third place finish, beating Paraguay 10-9 on penalties after the game finished 3-3.

He joined up with United’s academy on 5 October and will spend ten days training with our youngsters. Taitague is highly regarded after impressive campaigns for FC Richmond’s Under-14s and Under-15s in USA, and is expected to make the grade for USA’s newly formed Under-17s side.

Former Miami Fusion forward Greg Simmonds, who works closely with Taitague, has given his seal of approval for the youngster and believes he has the ‘it factor’.

Taitague will hope to have a different career to that of Freddy Adu who, at 14, was considered a world prodigy after he made his debut in the MLS but after an unsuccessful move to Benfica, he has now recently moved to Brazil with none other than Kleberson going in the other direction.

United give trials to plenty of youngsters and Taitague will certainly be hoping to land himself a place in our academy.
