Water’s Reach has been officially renamed Sir Alex Ferguson Way as recognition for his achievements and as a gift from Trafford Council for the legacy that he has left behind for the whole of Manchester and not just United itself.
It means that Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby have both been immortalised with statues and road names created to make sure their legacy lives on forever, something Ferguson has humbly accepted.
“It’s a privilege and an honour to have a road named after me,” he said after the unveiling.
“You don’t expect these things in life.”
Just as much as you don’t expect to have a road named after you, nobody expected Ferguson to win 38 trophies with United in a career spanning nearly three decades.
