Adnan Januzaj was always going to be a star according to former team-mate Noe Baba, who played alongside him in a youth tournament in Brazil in December 2011.
Januzaj, 16 at the time, played for United in the globally attended Under-17 Future Champions tournament only a few months after he joined but his performances earned him player of the tournament, and he was always set for big things according to Baba.
“It was clear to see that Adnan was a really talented player,” Baba told the Irish Independent.
“United had a strong squad on that tour but Adnan could do special things with the ball. He won player of the tournament.
“It doesn’t surprise me that he’s broken into the United team so quickly.
“I was delighted to watch him scoring those two goals against Sunderland.”
Unfortunately for Baba, his move to United never materialised but he has become the latest in a string of former players and coaches to have heaped praise on the Belgian.
This week, Corriere Dello Sport also released their annual list of the top 40 youngsters in Europe and Januzaj was one of only two English based players named on a list that included the likes of Paul Pogba, Raphael Varane and Julian Draxler.
Januzaj is certainly one of Europe’s most exciting prospects and it is expected that United will wrap up a new long term deal to keep him at the club in the coming weeks.
