Cristiano Ronaldo has said that the history of Manchester United and the presence of Sir Alex Ferguson meant that a move to Old Trafford was certain for him.
The 28-year-old is in absolutely prolific form again this year and after his brace against Juventus, he now has seven goals in three Champions League appearances this year.
Ronaldo was reportedly close to joining Juventus ahead of United but speaking to Italy’s La Stampa before Real Madrid’s game against Juventus, he admitted there was only one place he wanted to go.
“They can say what they want,” he said.
“The only team that was certain was Manchester United. I was 18 and there were many teams that wanted me – Juventus were one of those.
“But what intrigued me more, with the history and because Sir Alex Ferguson was there, was Manchester. So I went there.”
Ronaldo had come close to signing for Arsenal too but luckily for United, he knew Manchester was his home even before he joined.
