David Moyes needs to make sure Wilfried Zaha doesn’t leave

Wilfried Zaha finally made his competitive debut for Manchester United this week in the 4-0 demolition of Norwich of the Capital One Cup after patiently waiting for his chance.

The 20-year-old played 78 minutes in what was an impressive debut that showcased what he is all about. Up against Premier League opposition, he got the better of his man more often than not before sending in an accurate and dangerous cross – something he did with startling consistency in the Championship.

Yet, due to his limited game time, Zaha has been linked with a loan move and now Cardiff have expressed their interested in taking Zaha on loan according to the Daily Mail. Despite the interest, United need to make sure that they hold onto Zaha and don’t let him on loan in January.

What he showed against Norwich was the fantastic potential we all knew he had since his performances on the pre-season tour of Asia. All he needs is game time and David Moyes needs to give it to him for two reasons.

Firstly, United’s wingers are not playing well enough to deny him chances. Adnan Januzaj has been nothing short of superb but Nani, Kagawa Young and Valencia have all once again had indifferent starts to the season. Zaha deserves an opportunity ahead of three of them (Kagawa has started to impress).

If United’s first team wingers were firing on all cylinders, Zaha going on loan would be a good idea but they aren’t and he shouldn’t.

Secondly, he will get better with every game. Gareth Southgate said Zaha’s confidence in training had not been affected by his lack of game time and it is all simply a case of getting used to playing first team football again.

Zaha waited for his chance, got it and grabbed it. David Moyes should now have the confidence to play him in the Premier League and give him the opportunity to prove that his confidence wasn’t misplaced.
