Adnan Januzaj terrorised Fulham’s defence all afternoon and in the dying embers of the game, Sascha Riether took his frustration out on the young Belgian by purposefully stamping on his ankle.
Referee Lee Probert split the players’ scuffle up but he did not see Riether’s disgusting stamp because of his positioning and therefore did not punish him for it.
Retrospective punishment isn’t one of the FA’s strong points but this needs to be addressed. Any player who purposefully tries to hurt someone deserves to be banned.
On the upside, it was was good to see Marouane Fellaini coming in to protect his Belgian compatriot. Looks like we might have signed a £27 million bodyguard.
