Reported Manchester United target Ever Banega has edged closer to a move away from Valencia after his agent claimed he was speaking to a number of interested clubs, according to NapoloCalcioLive.
The Argentine playmaker has been linked with a host of clubs throughout Europe, including United, and could make a move away from Valencia as soon as the January transfer window with his contract due to expire 18 months later.
His agent, Marcelo Simonian, confirmed that negotiations with other clubs had already started.
“I can only say that we are already talking with several clubs for the next market in the next few days I will be travelling to present all the alternatives to Valencia,” he said.
Other English clubs such as Arsenal and Southampton have also been linked with a move and, although no price has been reported in these rumours, Valencia’s financial problems could see the 25-year-old move on the cheap.
How good is Banega? We spoke to the owner of Club Valencia to get an idea of the type of player United fans could expect if Moyes does decide to make a move for the midfielder.
“Ever Banega came to Valencia as a huge talent,” he said.
“His private life came in the way of his on-field performances and training though and he was loaned out soon after that. After he came back, he spent most of the time on the bench and once again off field issues plagued his career.
“I wouldn’t call him a model professionalism, far from it, but he has improved. He’s always been considered one of Valencia’s best players and when in full form he has been terrific, but he had a long-term injury about year and a half ago and since then he hasn’t been consistent.
Speaking of his abilities, it’s clear that Banega isn’t a defensive-minded player and prefers to be played in a more advanced role.
He continued: “He is at his best when there are wide players who are able to stretch out the field of play and he has space to organise the game and be creative.
“He also tends to dribble a bit too much in certain situations and while a great dribbler, he does tend to lose the ball in dangerous positions so a coach should be aware of that and tactically set up the team accordingly.
“At his best he can be absolutely fantastic, but he is not consistent.”
United’s failed pursuits of a playmaker from La Liga mean that Moyes has to go back in for one in the next transfer window and with an exit from Valencia looking on the cards, Banega could be a target on his last.
