Wilfried Zaha was given the #7 shirt for Manchester United against Stoke City yesterday in the Under-21s 1-0 loss at Carrington and with the shirt currently vacant in the senior squad, David Moyes will have to choose the latest occupant of United’s most famous number.
The 20-year-old didn’t have the best of performances against Stoke and with such little competitive football, it is hardly a surprise but on paper, his style of play is typical of someone who would take the No. 7 shirt at Old Trafford.
Fast, tricky and confident enough to dribble at his opponent, Zaha is an exciting player who United fans would love to see get more game time but with every week that goes by without him being involved, a loan spell looks more likely.
While it remains to be seen whether Zaha will stay at United for the whole of the year, Zaha has every chance of becoming United’s No. 7 but the question is whether it would be too much pressure too soon for him. You only have to look at the case of Antonio Valencia to see the impact that a shirt number can have on a player.
If Zaha wasn’t to be given the No. 7 shirt, then the likes of Adnan Januzaj, Shinji Kagawa and Nani would all be contenders for the shirt.
Do you think Wilfried Zaha should be given the No. 7 shirt at Manchester United?
