Last year, Robin van Persie scored home and away against Arsenal in his first two appearances against his former club. He didn’t celebrate.
Yesterday, he scored the only goal of the game to bring Arsenal’s back down to earth after their strong start to the season. He did celebrate, wildly, passionately and it was the right thing to do.
Arsenal fans have spat nothing but vitriol about Van Persie since he left and the fans do not deserve any sign of respect from the Dutchman when it comes to goal celebrations.
They continued their chants about rape at Old Trafford yesterday.
They did the exact same thing last year too.
Wenger might feel that Van Persie is still an Arsenal player but what he showed with his celebration is that he is a United player. He is a red. Gary Neville would be proud.
