Martin Hinteregger’s agent has reiterated that Manchester United have expressed an interest to take the Red Bull Salzburg defender to Old Trafford in the summer.
The 21-year-old is expected to leave Austria for a bigger challenge next year with both Serie A and the Premier League touted as possible destinations.
Back in September, Hinteregger confirmed that United were interested in signing him and now his agent Frank Schreier has repeated that statement when questioned by Cittaceleste on a possible move to Serie A.
“Looking ahead to next season there is interest from several clubs in Italy and England,” Schreier said.
“Thinking about this topic, his future will be in the Premier League or Serie A. Some Italian intermediaries have asked for information on the player. We’re in contact with two – Lazio and Juventus.
“I can assure you that in any case we are talking about a transfer for the summer, not in January. In fact there is a willingness to conclude before the season with the Red Bull Salzburg. Lazio likes it but I have to say it is a wide-ranging Italian championship.
“Given the interest of Manchester United, he has a future to be written in Serie A or the Premier League.”
United may be in the market for a centre back with Nemanja Vidic coming towards few years at Old Trafford and Rio Ferdinand’s potential retirement this year, but it sounds like Hinteregger may well move to Serie A given the interest from several clubs there.
At £2 million, he could turn out to be a bargain but equally so it is hard to adapt from the Austrian league to the Premier League and it would be a big step up where plenty have failed to adapt.
