Manchester United starlet set to join Nick Powell at Wigan this week

Will Keane looks set to complete a loan move to Wigan this week after Owen Coyle confirmed that everything was agreed in principle for the deal to go through.

While Coyle didn’t go as far as naming Keane as that striker before it is confirmed, he has been very heavily linked with a move to join Nick Powell at Wigan and left England Under-21s duty earlier this week presumably to help secure a deal.

The 20-year-old has been in fine form since his return from injury this year and David Moyes’ staff have decided that he is immediately ready to go out on loan.

“Everything is agreed in principle, verbally, but until we get that signed , I’m very reluctant to give any name,” Coyle told Wigan Today.

“I’m always reluctant until everything is concluded to commit myself but we are very close to getting that concluded – I am very hopeful of that.

“It’s a young player who is an exciting player, a striker who I’ve watched for a number of years and I’m a huge admirer of.

“It will certainly add to the squad, we want to make sure that we have a squad that will cope with the demands of the set of fixtures that are in front of us.”

Up until his cruciate ligament injury last year, Keane was one of the best strikers of his age group in England. Sir Alex Ferguson was going to take him on the pre-season tour and name him in his first team squad for the next season but he was cruelly struck down by injury.

His return to form so soon after coming back from injury is a testament to his quality as a player and a loan spell would certainly get him straight back into first team football. The main question would be whether an immediate loan would be too soon after his injury but if both Keane and Moyes are happy for a deal to go through, they are far better placed to judge. Hopefully Keane can have the same sort of impact as Powell has had so far at Wigan.
