Manchester United has confirmed that Federico Macheda has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan until 31 December.
The 22-year-old already spent a spell at Doncaster earlier this season where he scored three goals in five games but he was forced to return to Old Trafford due to injury.
However, he has now fully recovered in time to have a second loan spell with the Championship side who are currently on the edge of the relegation zone.
“A lot of credit has to go to him,” Doncaster manager Paul Dickov told Doncaster Free Press.
“Because of how he performed in his previous spell with us there were a lot of clubs wanting to take him.
“He had his choice of six, seven, eight clubs to go to.
“But he’s kept his word and come back here. It’s given everyone a massive boost.
“Clubs have been sniffing around even when he’s been injured.
“Although it’s not that that’s caused a bit of a hold up.
“Ourselves and United wanted to make sure he was one hundred per cent before he came back.
“We didn’t want there to be any doubts about his fitness.
“He trained with us on Wednesday and today and he was flying.”
Macheda’s representation has already indicated that this will be the Italian’s last season as a United player as opportunities to play with the first team have been too limited and he is expected to return to Italy on a permanent basis.
For the sake of his career, this loan spell could be crucial in putting himself in the shop window so he will want to make the most of it.
His luck with loan spells at the likes of QPR, Sampdoria and Stuttgart has been horrid which is a trend he continued with his injury at Doncaster earlier this season but he is back from another bite at the cherry, hopefully he can make the most of it.
