Ander Herrera extremely keen on Manchester United move

Manchester United and Athletic Bilbao have maintained dialogue about Ander Herrera this year and the midfielder is ‘extremely keen’ to move, according to The Telegraph.

The 24-year-old’s transfer to Old Trafford collapsed on deadline day because of a disagreement on how much he was really worth as United weren’t prepared to pay his full €36 million release clause.

The Telegraph have maintained that dialogue between the clubs has been left open and Herrera is still extremely keen on the move despite the failures of our bid to secure him in the summer.

However, if United go back in for Herrera, the issue of his valuation will be an even bigger problem. Given that United baulked at the €36 million release clause off the back of a brilliant season, why would they now feel he is worth that price tag after an indecisive season so far? If anything, his stock has decreased this year. Herrera has only completed the full 90 minutes on one occasion this season and has struggled in the absence of Marcelo Bielsa’s footballing philosophy since his departure. Instead,

One thing was abundantly obvious before kick-off against Swansea on the opening day of the season – Marouane Fellaini wasn’t enough to bring our midfield up to scratch and so it has proved. Even with Michael Carrick in the side, we desperately lack the creativity of a ball playing central midfielder like Herrera.

January signings are certainly plausible this year after the failures of the summer. If Herrera is indeed extremely keen, then the only stumbling block would be whether David Moyes and Ed Woodward feel he was now worth that much money to the team.

Do you think Manchester United will try and sign Ander Herrera again in January?
