David Moyes has confirmed that he is looking to strengthen Manchester United’s squad in January but only if the right players are available to him.
There have been a host of players linked with a move to Old Trafford including (but not limited to) Ander Herrera, Leighton Baines, Fabio Coentrao and Everton Ribeiro.
It is in central midfield where United really need to strengthen. Moyes knew that even before the failures of the summer transfer window and that situation hasn’t changed now but Moyes won’t be forced into buying for the sake of it.
“We would like to [bring in some new players], but only if the right players are available – either way there is no guarantee,” he told reporters at this afternoon’s press conference.
When it comes to bringing in substantial signings in January, it doesn’t happen very often at United but then again, United don’t often have such a poor summer transfer window.
We usually wrap up our business early on and laugh while others scramble at the end of a transfer window but were the ones left scrambling this year, something which left our squad weak again in central midfield.
There is no doubt that Moyes has every intention of strengthening the team but whether he does so remains to be seen as when it comes to player availability, and eligibility to play in European football, there are sometimes very limited options in January.
