Moyes hails the burgeoning partnership of Kagawa and Rooney

David Moyes was full of praise for Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney‘s burgeoning relationship after their performances in Manchester United’s 5-0 rout of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

It was the first time that Moyes had played Kagawa in the No. 10 role behind Rooney as a striker from the start and it was a decision that paid dividends on a day United recorded their best ever away win in the Champions League.

The pair excelled in their roles and Moyes hailed their influence on what should have technically been a tough European away night in the BayArena, where Leverkusen were undefeated in eight Champions League games.

“Shinji and Wayne played very well,” Moyes said.

“Wayne had four assists tonight, and Shinji was terrific as well. Its a long season and we’re going to have to make sure we have different combinations for different games, and tonight Wayne and Shinji were very good.”

In the absence of Robin van Persie, Kagawa and Rooney more than made up for him not being there. Slick passing moves saw Kagawa at the heartbeat and Rooney was always on hand to deliver the killer final ball. It was the sort of performance many had hoped to see from Kagawa sooner but he hasn’t had the opportunity to play in the No. 10 role.

With a tough away game against Tottenham on Sunday, there is every chance that Kagawa and Rooney will start again. Although Van Persie will be itching to play Tottenham in their own back yard, you can’t make too many changes to a team who just won 5-0.

Do you think Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney should start against Tottenham Hotspur?
