Sporting Lisbon are willing to let 21-year-old midfielder William Carvalho leave for bids in excess of €15 million this summer according to A Bola.
The figure comes as a big surprise as Carvalho has a €45 million release clause in his contract and has been named Sporting’s most talented youngster in what has been a stunning breakthrough year in Portugal.
His inclusion in the team came as a consequence of Sporting’s financial struggles pushing youngsters into the first team but his stock has risen so much that he was awarded his first call-up to the Portugal national squad for their crunch World Cup qualifier against Sweden, where he came on for the last 15 minutes at an important time in the game and impressed.
Manchester United have followed Carvalho for months but Arsenal joined the hunt and sent scouts to watch Carvalho in action this weekend as he scored and played a central role in Sporting’s 4-0 demolition of Pacos de Fereira.
The Express believes that Carvalho is on just £1,500 a week which would be a good bargaining tool for United and despite Sporting Lisbon posting profits for the last financial quarter, they are under pressure in order to pay club debts which again puts United in a strong position to negotiate.
As we said before, Arsenal will not be the last team to register their interest in Carvalho and now that a fee of just €15m has been floated around, other teams will no doubt enter the race to sign Carvalho.
