Loan Round Up: Keane and Powell suffer at the hands of Leeds

by Tracey Germaine

Jesse Lingard (Birmingham City) – Lingard started for Birmingham as they took on Doncaster Rovers. Lingard played in a lovely free kick which Burn rose to meet but unfortunately his header was deflected over the bar. Lingard had an effort at goal just before half-time but his shot was blocked by Paul Quinn. In the second half, he went on a good run and attempted to set up Adeyemi but the ball was played just too high. Much to the surprise of Birmingham fans, he was taken off in the 85th minute as Birmingham looked for a winner. The game ended in a 1 – 1 draw.

Federico Macheda (Doncaster Rovers) – Macheda played the full match in Doncaster’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham. Kiko didn’t get many chances at goal, particularly in the early stages. Just past the hour mark, Kiko burst through on goal but Darren Randolph was quickly off his line to deny him. Kiko had another chance soon after when he got on the end of a Coppinger’s cross but his header went just wide of the post. Kiko then skipped away from Paul Robinson and teed up his strike partner Billy Paynter but his shot went well over the bar.

Ryan Tunnicliffe (Ipswich Town) – Tunnicliffe was dropped to the bench after 13 consecutive league starts for Ipswich as they took on Blackburn Rovers at home. He was brought on in the 90th minute with Town 3-1 ahead. He gave away a free kick in the dying seconds but made up for it by blocking the shot. The match ended 3-1.

Tyler Blackett (Blackpool) – Blackett was an unused substitute in Blackpool’s 1-0 loss to Yeovil Town which saw three of the Tangerines sent off. Blackett’s loan was due to end on Monda but his inclusion on the bench indicates that his stay has been extended, although it is not known until when as neither Blackpool nor Manchester United have released any information.

Will Keane (Wigan Athletic) – Will Keane started his second consecutive match for Wigan as they took on Leeds United. He had a couple of decent chances to get on the scoresheet. Paddy Kenny managed to prevent Will’s first effort by making the save with his face from close quarters. Will then took advantage of a defensive error but his shot went straight towards Kenny who pushed it away. Replaced by Grant Holt in the 55th minute.

Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic) – Powell played 67 minutes in Wigan’s 2-0 loss to Leeds. He had a shot just on the half hour mark which Paddy Kenny managed to parry. In the second half, he had another chance to score but his header went wide. Replaced by Callum McManaman in the 67th minute.

Michael Keane (Derby County) – Michael Keane was once again an unused substitute for Derby County in their 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough.
