David Moyes is in Spain tonight on a scouting mission as Athletico Madrid take on FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United have already been linked with Athletico’s midfielder Koke and now that Moyes has travelled to Spain to watch him play, speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford is going to increase.
The 21-year-old has been one of the best players in La Liga this year having got eight assists so far, the same as Cesc Fabregas and Neymar, something which underlines his credentials as one of Spain’s most promising midfielders.
He played a deep lying midfielder role against Porto tonight in a midfield pairing alongside Gabi and combined with his ability to create chances, he has got an all-round aspect to his game that will please Moyes.
With a release clause believed to be upward of €30 million, he will be an expensive acquisition but United need that sort of signing in midfield.
Moyes has been very clear that he takes his time when it comes to bringing new players in and his presence in the Vicente Calderon tonight is the biggest indication so far that Koke could be on his wishlist.
Alternatively, he could have been there to watch Porto midfielder Fernando who can leave the Portuguese club on a free this summer as well as centre back Mangala and left back Sandro, all three of which have been linked with United in the past few months.
Either way, Moyes is on the lookout for reinforcements.
