Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United rumours have started in earnest now but the Dutch midfielder has insisted he knows nothing about any potential move away from Galatasaray in January.
The 29-year-old scored the only goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Juventus which put them into the knock-out stages of the Champions League at the expensive of the Serie A champions, with a top class finish in the dying embers of a snow filled game.
Sneijder has been linked to United for years and despite nothing ever happening, those links have already started for the January transfer window.
“I know nothing,” he told Dutch newspaper NOS after Galatasaray’s victory today.
“I know just as much as you only from the messages in the newspapers. This story coming out is like a ritual every time the transfer period is coming.
“Here in Turkey it is sometimes quite annoying. The fans are emotional and full of passion. I’m enjoying myself and am happy here.”
As has been the case for the past few seasons, Sneijder would be the perfect signing for United’s ailing midfield that need an injection of class and experience but whether he will ever join United remains to be seen.
In reality, his last gasp goal for Galatasaray means he will likely stay with the Turkish side for the knock-out stages of the Champions League but maybe if David Moyes goes in with a genuine offer, his head could be turned.
