Manchester United travel to Aston Villa tomorrow knowing full well that nothing but three points will do after back to back home defeats for the first time since 2011.
A victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League was a welcome distraction from the poor league form but United have to make sure they don’t fall out of touch of the top of the table. United go into the game as hot favourites at a price of 1.75/1 while Villa are outsiders at a price of 4.5/1
Currently sitting in ninth position, United need to put a string of results together in the festive period and work their way back up the table. With Arsenal losing to Manchester City today, it is the perfect opportunity to gain some points on the league leaders.
Robin van Persie has been ruled out for a month so there will be changes to the team with Javier Hernandez likely to start, but that may work in United’s favour.
Last year, Hernandez inspired a trademark turnaround as United came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in a game that was typical of our performances on the way to the Premier League title, and David Moyes will be hoping for a similar performance tomorrow from the Mexican if he starts. He could well get on the score sheet once again and is given a price of 2.5/1 to score any time.
Michael Carrick isn’t yet fit to return while Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra may potentially miss the game, so there could potentially be a host of first team players missing from the side but United will have to cope with the injuries in order to get the campaign back on track.
Right now, our squad isn’t looking very strong but a convincing win against Villa would be the perfect tonic after four Premier League games without a win.
Prediction: Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester United (29/1 with Hernandez first goalscorer)
