Dundee United’s wonder-kid Ryan Gauld has ended speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United as he has signed a new four-year deal with the Scottish club this week.
He signed the deal on the day of his 18th birthday and his new contract will keep him at Tannadice until 2017.
Gauld had been likened to Lionel Messi for his diminutive style of play and despite his slender frame, he has been one of the most exciting players in the Scottish Premier League this year.
His manager Jackie McNamara admitted he was ecstatic to see that Gauld wants to remain a Dundee United player for now.
“Ryan is showing his commitment to the Club by signing this contract,” McNamara told the Scottish Herald.
“We are trying to build something special here and securing Ryan on a longer deal signals our desire to achieve this.
“He is a fantastic talent who appreciates that Dundee United is the best place for him to develop at this time.
“Dundee United fans will quite rightly be delighted at this news and how the club is moving forward just now.”
Having scored seven times in 30 appearances, the burgeoning talent of Gauld hadn’t gone unnoticed with United and Real Madrid both linked with moves for him.
However, in the interest of playing more regular first team football, Gauld will stay with Dundee United for now.
