Manchester United have brought in highly rated Slavia Sofia defender Stefan Velkov to train with at Carrington as the academy staff wanted to take a closer look at one of Europe’s biggest talents.
At 6″3 tall, Velkov has the physique of a grown man despite only being a 17-year-old in much the same fashion as Romelu Lukaku when he came to Chelsea, but as a defender instead.
Considered by many as the ‘new Nemanja Vidic’ because of his physicality, strength and ability to make a last ditch tackle or block when necessary, Velkov is incredibly advanced for someone so young.
He is now a regular with Slavia Sofia aged just 17 and plays his international duty with the Bulgarian Under-21s despite his tender ago. Velkov has also received a call up from the senior Bulgarian squad as his stock continues to improve.
Central defensive options with the Under-21s are also very thing right now as Michael Keane has been loaned out, so there is a spot there if somebody is ready to take it and United should give Velkov a contract so that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t swoop in and steal him.
