Moyes confirms Nani’s hamstring injury is more serious than first expected

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United will be without Nani for a few weeks after he was ruled out of action with a hamstring injury that has proven to be worse than originally feared.

The 27-year-old has had a rough time of it this season now becomes the latest in a long string of first team players to have suffered an injury this year.

Nani joins Wayne Rooney on the sideline but David Moyes wants to wait until tomorrow to assess his fitness ahead of the game against West Ham tomorrow.

“Wayne has got a chance, so we will see how he is tomorrow, ” Moyes told reporters at today’s press conference.

“Nani has got a hamstring injury and we were worried about that. It’s worse than we hoped so that might well keep him out for a few weeks.”

It is worrying how regularly our players are picking up injuries but only a few years ago, our injury crisis was far worse than this so it isn’t something out of the ordinary.

United now have a whole host of first team players injured including Rooney, Van Persie, Nani and Carrick which is really testing the strength of our squad but after the 2-0 win over Stoke in midweek, Moyes is happy with how his squad is coping.

He added: “The players have done really well. That is why there is such a good squad and a big squad here because throughout the season, the amount of games we have to play here, you do need those extra players.

“We have seen recently, in the last couple of games, we have been a little bit short in areas but the players who have come in have done brilliantly well.

“We have needed the whole squad, we really have. Even bringing Darren Fletcher back into it as well has given everybody a lift. But not only that, for Darren to get a couple of games and come back into the team is great.”
